Oceania Orienteering Championships 2011

The Oceania Orienteering Championships are conducted every two years to determine the International Orienteering Federation’s regional age group champions.   The Championships will consist of Sprint, Middle and Long Distance events and a Relay event in foot orienteering.

The Oceania Championships are open to entry for competitors from any nation, however, only competitors who are full passport-holding citizens of an Oceania nations (Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the island nations of the Pacific) competing in the Championship classes shall be eligible for Oceania Championships titles and awards. No awards will be on offer for the non-Championship classes.

 

Australian – New Zealand Challenge

 

At each Oceania Championships Australia and New Zealand compete in a two-nation orienteering competition, known as The Australia-New Zealand Challenge (AUS- NZL Challenge).

The Challenge consists of an Individual Challenge, based on the Oceania Long Distance Championships, and a Relay Challenge, based on the Oceania Relay Championships.

SILVA National Orienteering League

The SILVA National Orienteering League is Australia’s premier orienteering competition. The League is primarily a teams competition: each state fields teams of at least 3 women and 3 men in four series of races per year (a total of 14-18 races). In addition, there is a points competition for individual glory.

There are four divisions of the SILVA National Orienteering League and four of the SILVA National Orienteering Series.

SILVA National Orienteering League:

  • Senior Teams: Based on the results in the Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s divisions of the National Orienteering Series and is the premier competition.
  • Junior Teams: Based on the results in the Junior Men’s and Junior Women’s divisions of the National Orienteering Series.

SILVA National Orienteering Series:

  • Senior Men: Open
  • Senior Women: Open
  • Junior Men: Under age 21
  • Junior Women: Under age 21

The seven state-based teams in the competition are: Canberra Cockatoos, NSW Stingers, Queensland Cyclones, Southern Arrows, Tassie Foresters, Victorian Nuggets and Western Nomads.
