Team nominations for 2011 Oceania Relays
Introduction
The Oceania Relay Championships is an international competition for teams from Australia, New Zealand and any other nations in the Oceania region that are able to field teams. Teams from other nations, including multinational teams, may also participate, but are not eligible for Oceania Championships titles and awards. In 2011, the Oceania Relay Championships is also the final race in the 2011 Australian National Orienteering League.
The Oceania Relay Championships incorporates the Australia – New Zealand Relay Challenge (AUS-NZL Challenge) for selected teams from Australia and New Zealand. While only these teams count for determining the Challenge results, all Oceania national teams (including the Challenge teams) compete on an equal basis for the Oceania titles. This provides the opportunity for orienteers not selected in their national team to form teams with the challenge of trying to beat one or both of the AUS-NZL Challenge teams. Some relay teams have achieved this in the past when the Asia Pacific Orienteering Championships has incorporated the AUS-NZL Challenge.
Members of official national teams (from same nation and correct age class), not included in the AUS-NZL Challenge, and which beat both Challenge teams for their age class, will receive a limited production coffee mug featuring the blossom of the Banksia Marginata, which is abundant in the area.
Elegible Classes
The classes for the AUS-NZL Challenge are M16A, M20E, M21E, M40A, M45A, M50A,
M55A, M60A, M70A, W16A, W20E, W21E, W40A, W50A, and W60A. Orienteering Australia and the New Zealand Orienteering Federation will select the Challenge teams for these classes.
The classes for the National League are M21E, M20E, W21E, and W20E. The State National League selectors will select National League teams for these classes. Selectors can find additional information in the Note to Selectors page.
All other Oceania Relay competitors, ie those not selected in the Challenge or National League teams, are invited to form their own teams in their preferred age classes. Australian teams may be State- or club-based, but may also be multi-State teams. New Zealand teams may be club-based, but may also be multi-club teams.
How to nominate a Team
Competitors should advise the organisers of their teams in running order by completing the 2011 Oceania Teams Nomination Form and sending it via e-mail to oact.online@work.netspeed.com.au as soon as possible, but no later than 5.00 pm Wednesday 28 September 2011. Send as many forms as necessary to cover all the teams that are being named.
It is not necessary to wait until entries have closed to nominate your team. If you need contact details for other potential team members, these will be available on request from the oact.online@work.netspeed.com.au.
Any relay competitors who have not been nominated in a team by 5.00 pm Wednesday 28 September 2011 will be allocated to teams by the organisers. It may be necessary to move some competitors to a class other than their nominated age class. All teams and running orders are to be confirmed by 2.00 pm Saturday 8 October at the Australian Long Distance Championships, when running numbers will be distributed.
